The economic climate is changing and in order to be successful, we need to change with it. An advantage of all the lockdown restrictions confining us to our homes is that we now have a little extra time to learn.

Here is a curated list of free online courses we can take to refresh our skills and gain new ones:

 

  1. Collaborative Working in a Remote Team by the University of Leeds

Duration: 2 weeks

Many businesses now have to work remotely, in order to comply with social distancing measures. For some business managers, this is their first time managing remote teams. This course will help you learn to navigate the ups and downs of remote work, and how to effectively manage your team. 

 

  1. Becoming an Entrepreneur by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)

Duration: 6 weeks

If you are curious about starting your own business venture but do not know where to start, check out this course from MIT. The course lays out the basic elements of starting a new business including, market research, identifying business opportunities and pitching ideas.

 

  1. Financing Innovative Ventures by University of Maryland

Duration: 4 weeks

Raising funds for a new business can be a challenge. This course teaches aspiring entrepreneurs how to develop investor pitches, perform company valuations, as well as other aspects on financing your own company.  

 

  1. Financial Planning for Young Adults by University of Illinois

Duration: 4 weeks

This course is aimed at young adults and introduces the basic concepts of financial planning, including how to assess your finances, budget, save, set financial goals and more.

 

  1. Successful Negotiation: Essential Strategies and Skills by University of Michigan

Duration: 7 weeks

At some point in your career negotiation skills will more than likely be necessary. You may want to negotiate a salary increase or a job offer. Through this course, you will learn the four basic steps of a successful negotiation. 

 

  1. Mandarin Chinese Level 1 by Mandarin

Duration: 6 weeks

Studies have shown the benefits of bilingualism, including the ability to outperform monolinguals in conflict resolution. China is the world’s second-largest economy and on track to be first, meaning they are involved in the majority of the world's business dealings. Learning the language is a great skill to add to your CV so if you have a lot of free time right now, a great way to spend would be by learning this incredibly useful new language.
