Why Self-Care?

Motherhood is a big job, unpaid, and under appreciated. Every occupation MUST have ‘choice time off’.

Loving yourself is very important. It’s the first step before loving others.

You’re still an individual. The birth of your child is the birth of a new you; a mother, but this does not mean you should lose yourself. Ignore anybody that insinuates that you should.

Putting yourself first is not selfish; it’s crucial to your mental and physical wellbeing.

Sometimes motherhood is a thankless job, and you must thank yourself.

5 Self-Care Tips:

Take a Day Off. Make sure you take at least one day off, every two weeks. Leave the baby and/or kiddos with your caregiver, partner, mom, dad, in-laws or any other trusted family member. Take at least 2 hours (the entire day is even better!)  to focus on your personal goals and aspirations. Go to the spa, nail salon, movies, or just stay home and relax.

Know Your Limit & Speak Up. Nobody can be everything to everyone all the time. Try to get a few minutes of rest everyday. If you’re a new mom it’s hard to follow, but ignore housework once in a while, or have someone help you, and rest while the baby sleeps or kids are out. Tell your partner when you need help. It’s okay to share the load.

Eat Well. We can’t take care of others when we’re weak and rundown. Practice good eating habits. Eat fruits, vegetables and hydrate! Do not skip meals. Eat smaller meals throughout the day if you’re on the go. Keep bananas, nuts and water handy.

Spend Time with Friends. Keeping healthy friendships contributes to long life and happiness. Make time to see girlfriends, chat about your goals, and laugh. It’s healthy to have strong relationships separate from your partner and children.

Read and Keep Learning. It’s easy to get engulfed in motherhood and ignore current affairs, books and literature. Listen to podcasts and audiobooks if you don’t have time to read. There are many apps, social media accounts, and books on motherhood and self care that will be beneficial to you.
